A job for the Cayman department of Tourism. Wow it is a small flat island. The view of West Bay extending toward 7 mile beach. Waiting a while after capturing images can sometimes yield great results. I had taken a photo of the dangling legs and did not take it to post production. I then saw a similar idea to mine and there it is, printed on canvas at least 30 inches wide.
Danisha and Christopher are a wonderful couple. I am putting these up early to show how wonderful she looked on the day. They got married in Flint and although pushed for time we did go out on the UofM campus for some photos.
Sweet table success! When I am talking with a bride I will often part with a bit of my own personal experience to assist with their day being all they planned. Usually at the time of our conversation there appears to be a mountain of information out there. The wedding industry is fraught with people offering advice. Many of these lead to deep holes getting dug and some not so sound information. In parting with my pearls I will keep to areas that I have fair knowledge in. Remember that free advice is exactly that and should be treated and acted on accordingly. So why offer it, well if someone is able to glean some assistance it worked to make their day better, a bit like the man throwing starfish back in to the ocean,
Found this quote by Jim Rohn while editing my fall images, seemed to fit, anyhow liked the quote. Interesting times in the USA. My story starts with one of my first trips to this country, about ten years ago. I was driving from Dallas to Miami, I grew tired of the highway, so decided to take side roads. Amazing what you see as you drive by people’s yards. Well it was in one of these yards I happened to notice a helicopter for sale on the roadside. This impression has stuck with me as I drive by still noticing some weird and wonderful advertising, promotions and sales going on. Then a couple of days ago I drove past this sign. I could not help thinking how much I hoped that this country will get back to helicopters for sale sooner rather than later.
I was going to put a small promo piece up at one of our local florists. What could I do that was a bit different that fit into the environment and showed my work. This is what I came up with, any coments before delivery most welcome,
How difficult could it be to make a photograph of a horse, that majestic of four legged creatures, do the animal justice? Surely given the subject, not too difficult right, wrong! Armed with a lot of memory and a level of confidence that was supposed to have this creature doing exactly as I planned. I arrived on location, props in hand, I was informed of the attention span of the subject being as I recall that of a three year old or was it a three month old, regardless it was not a period befitting the majestic beast that I would have guessed. Then it started, I ran through my arsenal of noise making props in next to no time. You may ask why the noise, in the somewhat demanding area of equestrian photo a shot that unless very specific, that is guarenteed the delete key is a photo with the ears back. Although acceptable for horse and rider, the horse is listening I am told, it is not desirable for portraits. One uses these props to get their attention, and it is all about attention span, I would never have believed it had I not experienced it but the horse grows bored with each tool at an alarming rate. Well lucky for me I had a fairly large arsenal of noise makers. In time one begins to get a sense of what works, only to find out afterwards there are a miriad of things that are not very sought after once the owner is viewing your proofs. Very quickly a mountain of pixels comes down to a select few. It was a wonderful experience none the less..
My wedding season is winding down, I am beginning my usual period of reflection. Questions like could I have done this or that better, a question every photographer should be asking him or herself. More importantly did I do my best? Again another question that each needs to ask and more importantly answer honestly. Finally a shout out to all who have been involved in this wonderful journey, Thank you. To those still coming along, hold on this is one crazy roller coaster ride and we’ll have fun on it. |
