What is the difference between a brand and a name? Are they different? As I look deeper into marketing and promotion I see this issue remains a struggle in the industry. What do I call my product that will make it a household name a brand that comes to mind whenever someone needs the service or product. Think of all the cocktail napkins that have been used to get this issue resolved.
To come up with my name it was not written before it was said. You may well recall as your parents called you and your sibling from doing some mischievous deed, they were somewhat flustered at the time, well they either called you by your siblings name, common, or just messed up the lot and mashed them together, yes two became one, or even more in some cases. Thus was created the name for my Photography company.
The actual photography has been in existence for some time, wafting between multiple disciplines, from underwater to tabletop still lifes. I come from the film school that would advocate you should stick to the knitting, or do what you do best and stick with it. Tough to do this stuck in the Midwest as an underwater photographer afraid of the cold.
Adapt, learn and develop, three skills I firmly believe todays professional photographer needs to adopt. Granted in the days of film, it was a costly experience to learn and develop levels of exceptional competency in multiple disciplines, this without being an intern for ages of your life. Not to say there is anything wrong with internships, just that with digital photography learning has become quicker. I am definitely not an advocate of “fake it until you can do it” I do say before selling it be good at it. I see a lot of what is passed as creative photography is a lot of mistakes, one or two , great, but the majority of an event, that takes guts to sell.
So Cleara Images, the name is my way of branding a product that covers an array of photographic disciplines, in a practiced and professional way. Sure I have my mistakes up as best work, my customer should never know, however I could never with good conscience market my product under the Cleara Images brand if all I did was make mistakes.
